21.1 段落和篇章

　　段落和篇章在長度上有明顯的不同，但是它們在結構上是一致的。首先，段落是由表達其主題思想的主題句(Topic Sentence)或主題導句(Topic Introducer)引出的，而篇章中的首段也是該篇文章主題思想的導言和引言;其次，一個段落必須有若干個展開句使主題思想得以展開和充實，同樣篇章的主體部分也是由幾個推展或后續首段主題思想的段落組成。再者，在段落結束時有一個結尾句(Concluding Sentence)總結段落的主旨，篇章也同樣有一個對上下文進行歸納和總結主題思想的末段。盡管不是所有的段落和篇章都具備這樣的完整結構，但典型的段落和篇章在結構上是一致的。

　　根據上述，讓我們比較一下Model Paragraph 21-1和Model Essay 21-2，后者的主題思想完全基于前者。所不同的是，Model Paragraph中的六個句子①，②，③，④，⑤，⑥均已被擴展成Model Essay中的六個段落。
